Title: Ice Storms
Scientific Description
The U.S National Weather Service defines an ice storm as a storm which results in accumulation of at least 0.25 inches of ice in exposed surfaces. Ice storms are formed when a layer of heat is between two layers of cold air. The precipitation melts while falling into the warm air layer and then begins to refreeze in the cold layer above the ground. An ice storm is a type of storm caused by freezing rain.
